Calendar of DEVC Events & Meetings

DEVC members Brent and Kent Singleton work closely on formal races at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. They also have been very active in preserving this natural racing surface.

On Sept. 17-20, 2008 a sanctioned race and electric power meet held. One of their goals is to push the envelope for electraton type electric vehicles. Everyone with an electrathon type vehicle that has been safety inspected can race at Bonneville. Brent and Kent will be maintaining the records for classifications and appreciate knowing about how a classification could be compromised. We always appreciate/rely on technical people like Ken Jones and Bill Williams.

Consider bringing your electrathon type vehicle out to see how fast you can go. Contact Kent and Brent at Savethesaltflats@aol.com for more information or visit the website below.

Exact racing date is Sept. 17-20, 2008 www.saltflats.com:

Hybrid, Biofuels, and Electric Car Fair
St. Cajetan’s Church, Auraria Campus
Presented by COPIRG Student Chapters, Campus Climate Challenge Campaign

Hybrid vehicles, Electric vehicles, Biodiesel vehicles and related technology
Workshop topics: Hybrid technology, Biofuels, Economic Benefits of Fuel Efficiency
“Who Killed the Electric Car?” showings at 2:00pm and 4:00pm

Participating student organizations and companies:
COPIRG, Metro Industrial Design, Global Awareness Project, Metro State Environmental Organization, Human Powered Vehicle Committee, Burt Automotive Network, Davinci Selectwork, Smart Wheels, Inc, Blue Sun Biodiesel, Denver Electric Vehicle Council, Colorado Biodiesel©, The Hypercar Center, UQM Technologies, Inc., Colorado Auto Connection, Inc., Consortium Manufacturing, Inc., Gaiam Goods, Inc, NILAR Inc, ITN Energy Systems, Hybrids Plus

With such accomplishments as the passage of a student supported Clean Energy Fee and Sustainable Campus Program, as well as the approval of a 750kWh Photovoltaic Solar Project to be installed on several campus buildings next year, the Auraria Campus is quickly becoming a leader across the state of Colorado and the nation in renewable energy and sustainable practices.   COPIRG Student Chapters of the University of Colorado Denver proposes to host a Hybrid, Biofuels, and Electric Car Fair that will connect local car dealerships and hybrid technology manufacturing companies with a Green vision to the students on the Auraria Campus.  The fair will reveal to students the types of automotive technology that are already available - here and now that are ready and waiting to be taken advantage of.  Some of these technologies include Hybrid vehicles, Plug-In Hybrid vehicles, Biodiesel vehicles, fully Electric vehicles and scooters, and the batteries and other parts that power these vehicles.  Included with the car fair will be several informative workshops regarding not only the types of technologies that are being used in the Hybrids, Biofuels, and Electric vehicles but also reveal what local businesses can and are doing to help advance Colorado in the sustainable industry.  In addition to the workshops there will be two showings of the film “Who Killed the Electric Car?”, an informative documentary that reveals the struggles for innovation and evolution of technology within the automotive industry.  This will make the Auraria Campus an excellent place where the principles of renewable energy, sustainability, and fuel efficiency can be demonstrated and stimulated, and show the nation what students are doing about environmental issues in regards to the automotive industry.  It is the aim of the fair to also bring on local government officials and business leaders to recognize the work being done not only by student organizations, but by local companies that are striving to make a change and bring this revolutionary technology to the public.  Not only will students become more educated about this movement, but the fair will also begin to stimulate the market for these types of vehicles by increasing public awareness.

Mission: To reveal to students the types of automotive technology that are already available, here and NOW that are waiting to be taken advantage of.  Also, it is a mission of the show to make the Auraria Campus an excellent place where the principles of renewable energy, sustainability, and alternative fuels can be demonstrated, and show the nation what students are doing about environmental issues.
